On January 30th, 1974 in Wales, Christian Bale was born. He was raised in England and began acting in school plays. He started his professional career with the role of an American boy in the West End stage production of "The Nerd." This led to the participation in workshops in London and roles in "Hearth of the Country " which was a BBC miniseries. The Land of Faraway was next for young Bale. He then was in the made for tv epic of Anastasia which starred Amy Irving and Olivia De Havilland.

In 1987, Bale made his feature film debut in the Steven Spielberg creation of Empire of the Sun . Christian was the lead role, Jim. An English schoolboy in the midst of World War II. He followed up with his roles in Kenneth Branagh's production of Shakespeare's Henry V and the TNT adaptation of the classic Treasure Island as Jim Hawkins. Here he played opposite of Charlton Heston's Long John Silver.

Bale's other films include the wide fan based Newsies , Swing Kids , Little Women , The Secret Agent and Pocahontas . He contintued on to appear in A Portrait of a Lady with Nichole Kidman and John Malkovich. He then joined the cast of Metroland (with Emily Watson) and Velvet Goldmine (with Ewan McGregor and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers.) After that, he played the role of a slightly slow young man in All the Little Animals . In 1999, he was back in Shakespeare playing the role of Demetrius in William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream opposite of Callista Flockhart (Ally McBeal.)

In more recent days, you can catch Bale in the critical acclaimed, and critically harassed, American Psycho . Bale was chosen to portray Patrick Bateman, a Wall Street serial killer. Though this role was called "career suicide" Bale did it anyway. This role definitely affected his fan base, that's for sure. Then came Shaft , the continuation of the 1970's story.

Bale went on to film Captain Corelli's Mandolin and Laurel Canyon . Finding time in January of 2000, Bale joined the "married" category as he wed his girlfriend, Sibi. He then filmed Equilibrium , a sci-fi thriller featuring Metroland co-star Emily Watson. Teaming up in with Matthew McConaughey in Reign of Fire Christian found himself up against dragons in a post apocolyptic setting.

So, where is he now, you ask? Christian is in Spain filming The Machinist which costars Jennifer Jason Leigh. A story about a machine operator surrounded by occupational hazards. The thing is, the operator, Trevor Reznik (Bale), is troubled with insomnia. Completely losing his ability to sleep Reznik still attempts to work but is this a normal insomnia? If you said yes, you'd be wrong!

Currently, Mr. Bale is working on the new installation of Batman movies titled Bateman: Year One. He is portraying a young Bruce Wayne in the beginnings of his crime
